What can a pull up bar to for my chest?

well what can a pull up do in general. Well what i'm really after could a pull bar lift my quite flabby chest up. You see i got this thing called Puffy nipples. (there is a proper word for it, but i just cant remember it :/) and there so embarrising!!! it makes me look as if i got man boobs, and i get jealous of all those guys who do take their shirt off, but not me.

I do alot of sports and exercise, but also spend time indoors, why cant i get fit?

Well i play football almost everyday for like 2-4 hours, im fairly active i do running, walking and cycling ... is the time spent on the computer actually damaging my fitness this much? how bloody hard is it !

First, diet matters a lot. You may be eating reasonably well, but one answer could be that instead of whole grains and vegetables with just a small amount of meat, you're eating pies and white rice and things from the chip shop too much. It doesn't mean you're really unhealthy, but it will keep you from getting particularly fit.

Second, the answer to your question is that sitting really is bad for you... even if you exercise! Recent research has shown this conclusively (see, e.g., http://opinionator.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/02/23/stand-up-while-you-read-this/ ). If you work on computers or need to sit through most of the day (at school, for example) then you don't have much choice... but it does have a huge effect, sadly.

Paint it a nice color and get a few of those plastic hooks that can be taken off easily. Hang the family things permanently, and use the plastic hooks for daycare materials.

Beginner swimmer: How many meters a day should I start swimming?

I'm normally a runner but I just joined a gym that has a small lap pool and I want to incorporate that into my routine (plus I have knee problems, so this can help me stay in shape when they are acting up).

For most people, swimming is a lousy way to lose weight as they cannot swim with an intensity great enough to generate weight loss. Figure for every 3m you swim you use one calorie. Then, determine how many meters you're swimming and you can determine your calorie usage.

Now, how many meters/day should you be swimming? That depends on your swimming skills. If you are a decent swimmer I'd suggest that you start off with about 500m per day for a couple of weeks. Then, after a couple of weeks, increase to 1000 meters. At this point, you should consider doing intervals ... then after another two weeks, go to 2000 m of mostly intervals and then (the goal) go to 3000 of mostly intervals.

Once you've reached 3000, then the goal is to do it in less time. If you can get to where you are going 3000m in an hour, you're in great swimming shape and using a lot of calories.

How do I become a personal trainer?

I have researched all nationally-recognized accreditation's like ACE, NASM, etc to become a personal trainer at health clubs such as 24 Hr Fitness and others but what is the best one, and most cost-efficient method of becoming a certified personal trainer? And is it a good field all-around?

Elliptical Exerciser or indoor rowing machine?

I'm getting ready to purchase Exercise Equipment for my home, but not sure which piece of equipment is better. I'm 52 and want something low-impact.

Hi Rhonda! Both ellipticals and rowers offer great cardio workouts. Recently I read a summary of a survey conducted by the Sporting Goods Manufacturing Association (SGMA) which said that ellipticals are the #2 purchased piece of Cardio Equipment, just behind treadmills.

Ellipticals appeal to more people, due to the low impact, aerobic workouts. Those machines work your heart without the impact on your legs, unlike other machines such as treadmills. The motion is similar to walking, thus it's quite natural and easy to use. In addition, you can easily change your pace and stride, resistance setting, program, etc. in the middle of a workout, without having to stop. Plus, most ellipticals have Dual Action hand-grip bars that even work and tone the Upper Body.

Rowers are about as close as a machine can come to providing a full-body cardio workout. The quality ones are also relatively inexpensive, but just slightly more than ellipticals. However, their drawbacks seem to be that the exercise motion is unfamiliar for most people and requires training of some sort. Also, because of the considerable amount of exertion (if used for an extended period) users tend to tire quite easily. Plus, people with problem knees or backs sometimes find rowing machines inappropriate due to the strain imposed on such areas of the body.

Whether you're considering an elliptical or a rower, just make sure you consider models that have "hands free" Heart Rate monitoring and control, by use of a chest belt monitor. It'll make your workout easier and safer... I hope that helps and you achieve your fitness goals!
